The album debuted at #3 in the U.S., making it her fourth top ten debuting album. It has already reached #1 on iTunes in over 50 countries since its debut. Spurred by first-week sales of 215,000, “Heart Attack,” the first single off Demi debuted at #1 on the iTunes’ chart in over 25 countries (including the U.S.) and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single achieved Gold status in the U.S. and Canada within just four weeks of its release, and achieved Platinum status in the United States and Canada within just 10 weeks of its release. Fox also announced that Lovato would return as a judge and mentor on “The X Factor,” the hit television singing competition franchise, which launched its third season in the fall of 2013. As the youngest judge and mentor, Lovato brought a fresh perspective to the panel and received praise from critics for her banter with Cowell, spot-on critiques, genuine encouragement and active involvement as a judge. Each week, viewers watched as she worked with her mentees and developed a personal relationship with each. Continuing her affiliation with FOX, Lovato also has a reoccurring role in Season 5 of the hit series, “Glee,” playing a struggling NYC-based singer and artist.

In the midst of her professional milestones, Lovato remains devoted to giving back. In June, she partnered with CAST Recovery to create of The Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program in honor of her late father. The scholarship aims to sponsor someone who is struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues in order to help them seek the right treatment. She also serves as an official Ambassador for the youth empowerment event We Day and the organization Free the Children, which works domestically and internationally to empower young people to remove barriers that prevent them from being active local and global citizens. This past summer, Lovato celebrated her 21st birthday traveling to Kenya to participate in a Me to We Trip, sponsored by Free the Children. During her stay there, she spent time getting to know the local students and working alongside local community members to help build a new Free The Children school.

In the late 2000s, while maintaining a rigorous TV and film shooting schedule, Lovato released two massively successful solo albums, Don’t Forget (2007) and Here We Go Again (2009); debuting at #1 and #2 on Billboard 200, respectively.

In order to raise awareness about personal issues similar to her own, Lovato became a Contributing Editor to Seventeen magazine in 2011. She used Seventeen as a platform to discuss her personal issues as a part of a larger campaign called “Love is Louder” directed towards teen girls. After revealing that she had been bullied at the age of 12, Lovato has also supported numerous anti-bullying organizations. In 2012, she was named the ambassador for Secret’s “Mean Stinks,” an anti-bullying campaign to inspire students to “gang up for good” against girl-to-girl bullying.
