On Saturday, February 11, 2012 the World City at the Music Center invites you to discover the rich cultures of Central Asia with performances by Sounds and Rhythms of Afghanistan (S.A.R.A.) and Ballet Afsaneh. The free, open to the public event will have two performances, 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., both taking place at L.A.’s Music Center.

The celebration will include post-performance visual arts workshops, designed by Music Center Teaching Artists, and give children the opportunity to explore the featured culture through unique art-making projects such as calligraphy, puppets and musical instruments.

S.A.R.A. is the world’s foremost Afghan music ensemble. Featuring four virtuosos of diverse backgrounds, and incorporating elements of percussion, dance, vocal performance and poetry, S.A.R.A. presents an all-encompassing vision of one of the world’s most culturally rich and historically troubled countries.

The Ballet Afsaneh repertoire will display a wide range, from glittering lyrical fairytale to thought provoking, contemporary work as well as activities featuring dance, poetry, and music of the Silk Road.

The free tickets are distributed on Grand Avenue at 2nd Street, starting at 10:00 a.m. for the 11:00 a.m. performance and at 11:00 a.m. for the 12:30 p.m. performance.
