El Templo Del PopAfter three studio pop gems, Miranda! releases their first “greatest hits” album. This album includes their well-known singles as well as some favorites, two new songs and a mega mix. It is with a total of twenty tracks that “El Templo Del Pop” sums up Miranda!’s journey through the pop stratosphere.  Whether you love or loathe all things pop, it’s hard to deny that this is a very talented band that knows how to work it.

While the songs are pure Miranda! quality, perhaps the track that highlights Miranda!’s highs and lows, as well as qualities and their weaknesses alike is the “Mirandamix” by DJ Deró.

This “Mirandamix” stands at an almost eleven minute mark, it includes the songs: “Hola”, “Prisionero”, “Traición”, “Yo Te Diré”, “Profe”, “Perfecta”, and “Don”… all mixed through a catchy familiar baseline that mashes up today’s radio and club friendly songs with a dance floor ready 70’s club vibe- “chup chup/ beep beep” included.

It is indeed a good mix, however it highlights Miranda!’s highs and lows.  It shows the band’s mastery of pop hooks, catchy tunes, witty lyrics, and fun music; on the other hand, it also shows a certain level of cheesiness, and a repetition that on a first listen sounds good but after a while it becomes annoying.

One of the two new songs “Chicas” is a new and interesting direction the band has decided to take.  After they ventured into cumbia sounds with the official Sonidero Nacional Remix of their single “Perfecta”, Miranda! decided to give it a shot once again and the results are simply amazing.  “Chicas” is a Latin tinged electro pop cumbia mish mash concoction that could easily spell disaster (just remember the Thalía fiasco), however Miranda! pulls it off marvelously, giving fans and non-fans something to look forward to for the next full length studio album.

Over all, this is a great compilation album, a must have if you have not purchased any previous Miranda! albums.  Now, if you’re one of those fans de hueso colorado and you have every single album, just go to iTunes or to your favorite virtual music store and purchase those new songs and that must have mix.

Must [legally] download tracks: “Mirandamix”, “Chicas”, “Quiéreme… tengo frío”, “Perfecta”, “Don”, “Hola”.
