Ever since their 1997 debut with “Von”, Sigur Rós defined and embraced their peculiar style. While many didn’t get it and blatantly ignored it, music aficionados and post rock junkies turned Sigur Rós into a popular underground band. If you haven’t heard any of their material, their fifth album “Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust” is a great way to get to know what Sigur Rós is all about.
With every album, Sigur Rós have managed to maintain their core sound without repeating themselves and sounding like a broken record on repeat.
In “Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust”, Sigur Rós try a more acoustic yet harder sound without abandoning their trademark style.
Sigur Rós is a clear example that to enjoy good music, it is not necessary to understand what the artist is singing about. With lyrics usually in Icelandic and a bit of their own “language” (vonlenska), as a listener you have no idea what they’re singing about (unless you google for translations) yet you can’t do anything but sit back and enjoy.
Sigur Rós scored a nifty timeless album filled with some musical gems. “Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust” probably has some of the most beautiful melodies and songs you’ve never heard.
If there’s ever a late-night driving cd, this is it. You can just picture yourself driving on the dessert in the middle of the night, with nothing but an empty road ahead and a sky full of tittering stars.
