Let’s be honest here, book clubs have never been cool. They have been around for quite some time and never has it been cool to brag about being part of a book club, not even “Oprah’s Book Club”. Book clubs seem to be only for soccer moms, grannies, and/or self centered “I’m-too-rich-to-do-anything-else” upper class folks. Well, the Antebellum Gallery in Hollywood is set to change that with their “Fetish Book Club”.
In this peculiar book club, it’s members discuss books that while they are racey and with explicit sexual content, are not trash literature. As a matter of fact, the books discussed in Antebellum’s “Fetish Book Club” have a certain literary value to them, since it’s not (just) about people performing fellatio and extremely unusual sexual practices. This time around they will be discussing the life and trials of Gilles De Rais. Also the books: “The Trials of Gilles de Rais” by George Bataille; “The Dark Pageant” a novel about Gilles de Rais by Edward Lucie-Smith, and La Bas (down there)by Joris-Karl Hysmans. It’s definitely an interesting and somewhat eye-opening experience. It’s worth checking out. Plus, if you’re interested you can grab a list for the next meeting and be part of the discussion group.
