 After several years, same-sex marriages were finally approved in California. It has been a battle incessantly fought by human and gay rights associations, group alliances and such. Thousands of people have been fighting for this civil right, and this week it finally became a reality for many. Marriage licenses where issued starting this week. So who to applaud for this achievement? There’s not one person per say… unless you ask Tila Tequila.
D-ListedIf you don’t know who Tila Tequila is you need to dust off your MySpace and also check out MTV. Tila Tequila is one of the first MySpace celebrities, with thousands of “friends” and a gazillion profile views. This Asian bimbo/ model/ singer became a sensation not for her music but for her “approachableness” as well as her racy pictures. Last year she made her TV debut with her own reality dating show “A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila” in which she was looking for that special someone. Unlike other dating shows like “The Bachelorette”, Tila Tequila had the chance to choose from 16 guys and 16 girls. Thien Than Thi Nguyen came out as a bisexual on national TV and embraced (and made a big deal) about her preferences. At the end of season one she chose a guy, which she quickly dumped to get a second season of the show. See, Thien Than Thi Nguyen aka Tila Tequila, is what it’s known in the MySpace world and in the tabloids as a fame whore, which means she’ll do pretty much anything to stay in the spotlight.

During the red carpet event for Bravo’s “A-List Awards”, Tila Tequila was asked for her opinion on the recently acquired gay right to get married. To everyone’s surprise she took credit for it, saying that it was thanks to her show that people saw that people “were really into it”. Whether you’re for or against same-sex marriage you will agree that if anyone has less to do with the approval of this law is some D-List reality personality. It’s simply blasphemous. It’s as ludicrous as if Lindsay Lohan suddenly told the world that thanks to her recent lesbian tendencies (with galpal Samantha Ronson) people have come to accept lesbians. Reality CheckThe worse thing about this is not the fact that Thien Than Thi Nguyen is saying this in public and in front of cameras- it’s the fact that she thinks it’s real and that she was the one that made it happen. There are still some people out there that live their lives by what they see on TV and whatever “celebrities” and D-list personalities tell them, they take it to be true. By taking credit for making same-sex marriage possible in California, Thien Than Thi Nguyen is walking over all the organizations that have worked years to make this possible.
