PitbullBecause he can back up his bark and bite. Cuban-American rapper Pitbull hit the airwaves with his hot, rising single ‘Culo’. His debut album M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue) could put TVT records on the map. The 23-year old Miami native got his start by showing off his rap skills in clubs and later got his track “Oyé” on the 2 Fast 2 Furious soundtrack. Pitbull could’ve gone to a major label but he preferred the tight community in an independent one. “As I grow it grows”, he said. This self-professed hustler gives respect for those who opened the door for him like the late Big Pun, Fat Joe and the man who began the dirty south movement Luke Campbell.

Pitbull is doing extremely well spreading his infectious, head bobbing lyrics to different parts of the States. “We’re doing real well every market that we go to. We get a lot of love. I feel like I’m an underdog. They don’t expect me to do much, when I get on stage and do different freestyles then they understand what the southern movement is all about. I love it.”

But don’t get it twisted. Pitbull knows that the music business is all about making the dollars. He forgoes the jewelry, cars and all the other entrapments of fame. Instead, he sets his sight on the lucrative picture like real estate, his stake in a clothing line and autobody shop.

He understands this game is to be played. “You got to strategically know what you’re doing, your team got to be built right for this game and know how to play the position, and this shit is not built for short term goals. It’s built for longevity.”
