Velvet Hammer BurlesqueBack in 1995, Michelle Carr founded “Velvet Hammer”, a burlesque troupe that helped bring back the burlesque dance craze to Los Angeles. Unlike other troupes, Michelle Carr and “Velvet Hammer” mixed traditional American Burlesque revues with a post-feminist punk attitude, giving their shows an edgier feel to them.

To differentiate them even more than the other troupes, “Velvet Hammer” incorporated a huge cast of male and female performers, acrobats, dancers, comedians and musicians- making their shows more theatrical and less stripper-ish.

All those shows that the “Velvet Hammer” has put together where captured in several photographs which made it into book form and are also being showcased in this exhibit that will run until March 5.

Hi, my name is Rafael Alejandro Acero Hernandez, and I'm an alcoholic.   I don't drink beer.  I'm addicted to chocolate.   I'm a bit bipolar and every once in a while obsessive/ compulsive.   I have a really short attention span.  I don't believe in labels, I'm not defined by what I do or by who I do- for that matter.   I'm a writer, an actor, a dancer, BUT nothing is better than being a professional a$$hole.  Soy un chilango incomprendido, y como tal- valemadrista a morir.
