Maybe you've only heard of the blackly comic and ultimately bleak (yet excellent) musical because of the Tim Burton film version of in which Johnny Depp stars as the titular character. But "Sweeney Todd" was first produced way back in 1979 with a cheery Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett, the woman who literally helps Sweeney (demon barber of Fleet Street) make mincemeat of the townsfolk. This updated version is quirky and even more twisted with the actors playing the instruments onstage.
