She is known in Mexico and on this side of the border as la reina del rock. It’s more of a nickname than a title. Her last couple of albums have done nothing to back up that name. She does have that badass rock and roll in your face attitude, but that doesn’t make a “queen” or even a “diva”.
She has some pretty decent music out there, but it’s not rock, it has clear rock influences, but its pop/ rock… pop nonetheless. What’s so wrong with being pop anyway? She has proven many times that she is real, that she has genuine talent, personality and explosive attitude. She is no Fey, definitely not a Thalia or a Paulina Rubio. She has created a name for herself and worked hard to achieve what she has done so far. She has made a brand out of Alejandra Guzman, making people (and even herself) believe that it’s truly “rock”. Music aficionados and know-it-alls now that’s just a bunch of bull and that she is pop. A las cosas hay que llamarlas por su nombre. However, when using the term pop in an artist like Alejandra Guzmán we have to leave behind all those derogatory connotations that go along with the pop genre.
On her latest album “Fuerza”, Alejandra Guzmán shows a softer side of her, yet once again. Blame it on her age or on her personal and health struggles, but it’s definitely a snooze, though not as huge as her last album “Indeleble”. It’s more of a power ballad album; it has a couple of stand out tracks that might show a hint of the crazy Alejandra Guzmán people fell in love with. Her music empalaga and her lyrics instead of coming of as empowering and sweet are so filled with cheese she may as well become the next spokesperson for Cacique or Kraft. |
