Murakami is definitely a must-see exhibit, from the moment you step in you’ll find yourself inside Murakami’s world- something between fantasy, reality, Asian pop culture and manga. There are many sculptures that will blow your mind away. Among the risqué ones that might make you blush you’ll find “Miss ko²” and “My Lonesome Cowboy”; as if it weren’t enough that they are life-size and nude, they are shooting body fluids in a way that will totally amaze you. Many of the sculptures although simple in shape, they are extremely complex when it comes to color, you’ll find out that many of the pieces take several years to complete.
In short, the Museum of Contemporary Art is featuring more than 90 works from possibly the most internationally known Asian artist- Takashi Murakami. The work presented in this exhibit is made up of sculptures and paintings that Takashi Murakami has been working on since the early 90’s until the present. This international traveling retrospective is an unprecedented opportunity to survey the depth and breath of Murakami’s career, and a great excuse to stop by MOCA’s Louis Vouitton shop where you can find unique souvenirs. Where: The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA Museum of Contemporary Art 152 North Central Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90013 (213)621-7953 When: Now showing until February 11, 2008 Price: General Admission: $8, Students with ID: $5 Free admission to all on Thursdays. |
