As everybody knows, pop culture has a major effect on the way we do pretty much everything- from the way we dress, walk, talk, eat (or not), and do our hair, among other banalities. Pop stars are seen as major trendsetters and more often than not set the standards to whatever will be hitting department stores shelves in the months to come. This time around the fashion limelight is not shining in the U.S. leaving Madonna, Paris and Britney crying their little hearts out. They tried to make her go to rehab, but she said no no no and instead inspired Unkle Karl for the latest Chanel collection,
Back To BlackNot only did the Brit Amy Winehouse manage to bring back 50’s inspired music and the beehive hairdo, she also shifted everyone’s attention from the poptastic stratosphere to have people appreciate true talent and a voice that does not require computer trickery to sound good. Aside from her music and her personal troubled life (think Britney meets Pete Doherty), she has been known for her bold fashion and her daring hair and make-up. When not dressed all black wearing some worn out pink ballerina slippers, Ms. Winehouse can be seen working the stage or wherever she goes some magnificent outfit that seems to be taken out of a Tim Burton inspired movie. Amy Winehouse seems to be a great part of the inspiration for the 2007/ 2008 Cruise Collection. Unkle Karl presents a daring collection mainly dominated by black and white as well as various shades of grey. Let the Goth in you loose; forget about those Martha Stewart pastel colors and those Desperate Housewives cardigans, if you want to be in style check out this new collection, or simply google Amy Winehouse. Channeling Chanel
You could easily describe this collection with three words: classy, sexy, and bold. There’s a lot to choose from for the ladies. People always say you can never go wrong with a black dress, Chanel reinforces that statement. Pretty much everything is above the knee, there are several mini mini-skirts, but to all the exhibitionists out there- hold your horses, it only works when you are wearing black leggings underneath, failure to do so may give you that cheap “Pretty Woman” gone wrong look. Make up also is very Winehouse-oriented, it’s extremely subtle, sorry- no in-your’s-face red lipstick and all the attention is in the eyes, the Egyptian look seems to be what works for the most part, smokey eyes are so last season. For the guys it’s always simple, following the same criteria as in the ladies selection, everything is pretty much two-toned. Coats are a huge thing now, not only are they breathtaking and stylish but they’ll keep you really warm for the rest of the winter. This collection was a major shock to many fashionistas out there, the simplicity was too overwhelming for them, which is precisely what Unkle Karl and his team of designers was shooting for. Sometimes simple is the way to go, you don’t think so? Just check out Chanel’s latest collection at: www.chanel.com |
