The California Touring project is proud to present an evening filled with “experimental dance” at the Diavolo Space. It wil feature works by casebolt and smith, Cid Pearlman, Susan Rose, and Yolande Snaith. Although all the choreographers have different styles and trained in different techniques, they all have one thing in common: they shy away from the conventional dance world. They deliver dance pieces that always have something to say- arte con conciencia, something other than just steps and counts there’s always a meaning. They all challenge society and the overall society approach to many of today’s issues- let them be social, economic or political… even religious and sexual. |

The oldest and the most currently overlooked dance form is ballet. Ballet is the foundation of many contemporary dance styles- let it be modern, jazz or even certain forms of hip-hop. However, thanks to its restrictive ways and uptight regulations in technique, ballet has been relegated as an upitty bourgeois dance form. We tend to associate ballet with boring, and while learning ballet technique might be a tad tedious and the music might put to you to sleep even with three Monster energy drinks in your system, truth of the matter is that ballet dance is one beautiful performance to watch. The oldest ballet dance company of this continent, the San Francisco Ballet celebrates its 75th anniversary at the OCPAC with new and classical works. |

Danza Floricanto is perhaps the oldest Mexican folk dance company in the area. Ever since it was founded back in 1975, Danza Floricanto- under the direction of Gema Sandoval has been promoting and preserving Mexican/ Mexican-American and Chicano culture through traditional dance. On their repertoire they cover over 17 regions and styles within the Mexican folk dance orb. This year marks their 6th annual Día de los Muertos celebration in which they transform the venue- this time around The New LATC into a cemetery, taking the audience to a trip back in time and to a land where the line between life and death is blurred. |
