Dance as entertainment and dance as an art form are two totally different things. As different as they are, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible for them to co-exist. However, it’s not always to come across with dance concerts that are extremely artistic yet entertaining. When private dance studios put together shows, their main focus is to entertain. Tere O'Connor is deeply immersed in the poetics of dance. Using choreography to process information, O'Connor reveals his inimitable and penetrating aesthetic. O'Connor's choreography is as profoundly interesting as the dancers. These dancers are as forthright in bold, unusual, witty passages of choreography as they are when executing pedestrian moves or meaningful gestures. What might be events and rhythms from daily life appear disconnectedly, fluidly, the way they might in dreams or memories. Images surface and disappear without transitions or repercussions. |

Santa Monica Highways Performance Space presents “Go Metro…” a production by choreographer Jamie Benson and fashion designer Andrae Gonzalo.
