Imagine a hip-hop artist who doesn’t brag about having chicks worship his manhood, who doesn’t rock enough ice to give him freezer burn or rolls in a Bentley with 22 dubs. Picture a 20-year old Chicano from the hood lifting up his people through his music. This is the story of Juan Pablo Huerta aka Jae-P, one of the new artists on Univsion Records. He wears his culture with pride and talks about it intimately in his songs. “I know my culture, and I know where I come from and I respect my culture so much and I love it. I want to teach my people my culture, because I just want us to be heard.” |

She’s a powerful voice in the rap game who’s holding it down for her girls. Flakiss is a rapper breaking into a predominantly male field. But it’s clear she has the balls to do it. In a world where radio worships 50 cent, Fat Joe and OGs like Snoop, this strong willed 20-something Mexican-American represents her women with honor. “I’m on the same level, that’s why I wanted to rap, to put it down for the girls too. It’s not a guy thing like everybody says it is. It’s a rap thing. It’s whomever could do it. It doesn’t matter if you’re female or male.” |

Because he can back up his bark and bite. Cuban-American rapper Pitbull hit the airwaves with his hot, rising single ‘Culo’. His debut album M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue) could put TVT records on the map. The 23-year old Miami native got his start by showing off his rap skills in clubs and later got his track “Oyé” on the 2 Fast 2 Furious soundtrack. Pitbull could’ve gone to a major label but he preferred the tight community in an independent one. “As I grow it grows”, he said. This self-professed hustler gives respect for those who opened the door for him like the late Big Pun, Fat Joe and the man who began the dirty south movement Luke Campbell. |
