The Basics:  Halloween represents a major holiday for many of us living on this side of the world, especially if we happen to be close Halloween Central, also known as Hollywood.  If the saying “all the freaks come at night” is true, it also applies to Halloween, except that in Los Angeles and Hollywood not only the freaks come out in Halloween- no, you have the freaks, the weirdos, the sex vixens, the nudists, the occasional cross-dressers, and everything in between.  The whole L.A. area transforms into a huge costume party- no matter where you go. Before walking the Hollywood streets, a couple of friends and I decided to check out “Blue Velvet”. We were so naïve when we thought we were leaving soon after having a couple of drinks.

The Basics: If the location of “Whiskey After Work” sounds a little confusing it’s because it probably is.  When I was told about “Whiskey After Work”, it sounded so fabulous I didn’t care to even google, I just mapquested directions and prepared for a chill and splendid night. Upon arriving to 930 Hilgard Ave., my friends and I were perplexed at the fact that it was not the lounge we were expecting.  For starters, “Whiskey After Work” is none other than the “Whiskey Blue” lounge, which is located inside the glamorous “W Hotel”- yes, it’s one of those ritzy bar/ lounges.

The Basics: There are dive-bars practically everywhere.  One particular city that is known for its massive amount of dive-bars (other than Hollywood and the Downtown L.A. area) is Long Beach. You don’t think so? Just ask anyone you know that lives in the area and they’ll let you know about “their” bar, apparently there’s a bar and hang-out place per resident.  So if you’re into DL and chill places like those dive bars you know where to go.  So, what happens when you’re on the opposite side of the L.A. county (Highland Park to be exact) and don’t feel like dealing with the traffic?  For me and my buds it was either go back home or find us a place around the area and celebrate Wednesday night.

The Basics: Nightlife in Los Angeles is going through some rough changes. The good old days when all the partying and clubbing took place during the weekend are long gone.  Now, the must-do thing is party during the week, which is apparently when the best events are happening. The newly remodeled “Vertigos Ultra Lounge” along with its façade, modernized its modus operandi, ditching the “bar & grill” ambiance for something hip, chic, and up to date- which included adding events during the week, one of them being “Positively Negative” on Tuesdays.
