In 1995, with A La Brava Productions/Cine Sin Fin founded the first East L.A. Chicano Film Festival now known as the Chicano International Film Festival.

Since then, it has screened a vast array of films exposing the perspective of Chicana/o culture and capturing the diversity of Chicana/o film.

This year it returns bigger & better!

If you’re looking for a weekend plan, this my friend, is THE SPOT to be at and here’s why:

1) This event is 100% committed to making a difference in its community

All net proceeds are to go toward starting a film school incubator program at Plaza de la Raza for youth.

2) It is open to all cine aficionados

Everyone is allowed to submit film entries as long as it has not been released commercially and it conforms to the film and category requirements.

3) The ChIFF is artistic AF

The Chicano International Film Festival, which BTW will be held (Sunday only!) at the glamorous ArcLight Hollywood Cinema, will include independent film screenings, an exclusive art exhibit and 8 music acts.

4) It was created by local talented Chicanos

Jaime Gutierrez (Civil rights attorney) and “Los Cuates”: Eduardo (B.A in Architecture) and Ernesto Espinoza (Real Estate and Economics), met at U.C. Berkeley in the Spring of 1991 and created a magazine which will soon evolved and result in what today is the ChIFF.

5) It caters to the Crafty Chicanos

Remember the point above? Well the ChIFF supports local artisans as well by showcasing and selling their pieces.

6) And of course, pleases the Foodie lovers

Come ready to munch on delicious Latino dishes and Hispanic treats as you wander around the festival.

7) Great music is to be expected!

This year’s lineup includes Ana Saldaña, Sin Color, Cosmic Apostles, Cuicani, DJ Menoman and Nancy Sanchez.

8) 2016 is their 1st year doing the festival.

Although they’ve been around since 1995, this year will be their huge breakthrough!

9) For only $20 you can showcase your film

Categories are narrative feature, narrative short, documentary feature, documentary short, LGBTQ, Avant-Garde, Music and Youth, this last one is free of charge.

10) You can be part of this awesome cultural event

Don’t miss the Q&A with the talented Richard Montoya right after his “The Other Barrio” screening on Sunday.  All you have to do is click here to get your tickets and support fellow Chicano artists.
